Welcome To the SOMTY Home Page

SOMTY is the Finnish Organization of the Orthopaedic Manual Therapy. SOMTY is a member of the International Federation Of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (IFOMT) and also member of the World Confederation Of Physical Therapy (WCPT).

SOMTY was founded in 1970 and has 900 members. The main purpose for SOMTY is to organize manual therapy education and courses for physical therapists, physicians and other target groups when appropriate. SOMTY participates in research and development of manual therapy and related areas as well as promotes manual therapy in Finland.

(SOMTY functions closely with SMLY which is the Physicians Organization of Manual Medicine in Finland.)

SOMTY´s principles are based on the Kaltenborn-Evjenth Concept, since the first Finnish physiotherapists studied in Norway under Olaf Evjenth’s supervision.

Over the years SOMTY has closely followed the development of the manual therapy field on the globe and for instance has close connections with NDS (Neurodynamic Solutions), Kinetic Control and the NOI group (Neuro Orthopaedic Institute).

SOMTY functions actively nationally and internationally to bring the latest knowledge from the field of manual therapy and related areas to its members.
